YELP.COM

You know there is a site online that allows a platform for anyone to post anything, slanderous or otherwise about businesses and I am sure that some are justified, but, if I were a betting man, I would say that the majority could be deemed either gray-area remarks or simply flat out lies. There are businesses that actually should be put out of business for unsavory business practices and that's why we have a court system, Chamber of Commerce, The Better Business Bureau, etc. etc. but there are many that get slandered, belittled, disgraced on the site called YELP.com and without any proven facts whatsoever. This site allows for bewildered people, nut-cases, habitual trouble makers, people who can't get attention anywhere else in life so they vent their power to attempt to destroy someone's business just because they can whether they have in fact be mistreated by a business or not. Most stores have some specific policies(i.e., all sales final, no returns, all warranties by the manufacturer, etc.) and when these are explained before the purchase and the customer buys with a clear understanding, takes it home and decides they just don't want it and attempt to return knowing there is a no return policy and they are then refused the return, they go to YELP.com and try to slander a business in to getting their way. I actually had a customer come in to my furniture store and part of the way in to showing my product the customer asked if I Yelped and I told her I didn't know what that meant. She explained it was a website where she could post what she thought about my business and that she had something like 72,000 visitors and that I better give her a good deal if I didn't want a bad Yelp. If I had of been a little smarter at the time, I would have told this person I will not do business with her, this was actual a threat, a black-mail tactic. You guessed it, I did everything I could to make her a happy customer and had a couple small mistakes that I admitted I made and told her I would correct immediately, but, before I could do anything to right the situation she negative YELPED me. I remedied the situation by telling her we would pick up all the merchandise, refund every penny of her money and she could do her shopping anywhere else she wished, just not here. No site or media should ever be allowed to publish any unproven stories without knowing any portion of the facts and/or without knowing the mental stability or intentions of the person posting. It is my opinion that there will soon be very strong legal actions taken against YELP and they will be held accountable and I will assist in any legal actions. I believe the public should know about crooked dishonest businesses, but, for someone to simply throw a tantrum because they didn't get their way and to post a bunch of lies in an effort to try and destroy someone and/or their business is libelous and will eventually be addressed in the court system and some could suffer their liabilities.

  1. Hey Howdy! This is something I have got to say to any and or all you songwriters out there. I guess everyone knows by now that I wrote the song "How Do You Like Me Now" that Toby Keith recorded. Well, that was a song I wrote way back in the late seventies and the 1st person who ever liked the song was Toby Keith and that was late one night in a bar in California 1993 while I was still in my drinking days. I played the song for Toby on his guitar a couple times at the bar he was playing that night, I wrote the lyrics and chords on paper napkins and even told Toby what I thought was best for the arrangement, I told him a Doobie Brothers Listen to the Music sort of shuffle would sound great since it was basically a loose humor type song, Toby agreed. The agreement we made that night was if Toby hit it big with the song that he would buy me a new red Dodge Turbo Diesel Dually Crew Cab pick up truck and Toby said if it did well enough that would be no problem. So, that night without any copyright protection I gave my song to , at that time, an unknown in the music world the song I wrote known as "How Do You Like Me Now" Toby held on to the song for a few years and made a complete career change because of the song he left Mercury Records and moved to Dreamworks where he released not only the song I wrote as a single but also the album with that same name and it became song of the year and album of the year. Apparently Toby took my song to Chuck Cannon another songwriter and apparently Toby told Chuck that he had written this song and needed help doing the arrangement and polishing it up. So, it seems Toby gave half of the song to Chuck Cannon for his services and now Chuck swears that he and Toby wrote the song together. The song made millions for the two and I never got my truck, I never got a phone call of thank you, I have never received a letter back from my inquiries to Toby office/label, I never got a thing but a pack of lies about how Toby claims he wrote my song. You see, there are those who once the money starts flowing lose all sense of integrity, the money becomes more important to them than their speaking truth. Thing is, I have never once, not once, ever asked for Toby to pay me any money, all I ever wanted to my name on my song at least as a co-writer, something. This my friends is why I tell everyone I know that writes songs, I don't care if you think the song is great or if you think it is terrible, if you created it, COPYRIGHT IT! There are a lot of creepy crawling snakes out there that will take what you got and run for the hills with it and leave you like the cock-roach they think you are. Toby Keith and Chuck Cannon both know that I actually wrote the song and now they both have that lie to live with and the lie will never stop haunted either one of them until they confess and clear their hearts & souls of it. I guess it's what we call Karma that will find it's way into their lives and careers eventually and what has gone around will eventually come around to them. They have no excuse to say that they didn't know how to get in touch with me because I am all over the internet. Again my friends and I can not say it enough, if you created it COPYRIGHT IT! Peace, CBW
